What to Do When a Death Occurs

Within Hours

When a loved one passes away at home or outside a healthcare facility, the first step is to contact emergency personnel. This ensures all legal requirements are met before your loved one can be transferred into our care. If your loved one was under medical care, it’s also wise to inform their physician, as they can assist with necessary documentation.

If the passing occurs in a healthcare facility, staff will handle notifying the proper authorities. They will also contact your chosen funeral home, provided they have that information.

Emergency and medical professionals involved will guide you in obtaining the medical certificate and any other essential paperwork required for the next steps.

We understand this can be an overwhelming and emotional time. At Oklahoma Cremation Centers by Simplicity™, we are here to support you every step of the way. If you’re unsure of what to do, call us anytime for compassionate guidance and assistance.

Serving Families in Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Surrounding Areas with Care and Compassion.

Within The First Few Days

You’ll want to notify close friends and relatives, both through personal phone calls as well as your loved one’s death notice. If this process is too painful for you, it’s okay to ask a trusted family member or friend to help you.

This also is the time to review any of your loved one’s preplanned cremation wishes and meet with a funeral director to begin planning their service. If your loved one did not plan in advance, you might want to start thinking about a few of the big choices you will need to make, such as:

  • The type of urn
  • The location of their final resting place, whether you decide to keep them within your home, spread them in a cherished location, or inter them in a garden, statue, or other memorial property
  • Any religious services you will need, such as clergy or spiritual leaders
  • The types of services you want, such as a viewing, service, graveside memorial, etc.

These questions are just a starting point, and you don't need to know the answers right away. Don’t hesitate to contact us to gain a better understanding of your options. We're here to make this process easier for you.
