Richard Gains Owen, Sr., age 81, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on the morning of Thursday, February 5, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones. Richard was born in Oklahoma City on July 16, 1944. He was the seventh of eleven children born to Robert Gains and Goldie Mae Swain Owen. Despite a humble upbringing, Richard and his siblings learned the value of hard work on the family farms. Richard attended school in Harrah, Chandler and later in Midwest City. His belief in God, Country and Family was evident when he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served from 1962-1966, when he was Honorably Discharged. Throughout his life, Richard worked in various vocations, started several small businesses and had a work ethic that was second to none. Richard instilled his work ethic into his children and taught them the pride and responsibility of working honorably, providing for their families and passing that legacy on to the next generation. The last chapter of Richard’s career was that of an Oil Landman. He traveled across the United States and eventually married his wife, Ruby of Carrollton, Ohio. He resided in Ohio until October 2025, when he returned to Midwest City to be with his family during his final months. Richard (Dad/Grandpa/Great-Grandpa) was diligent in all he did and he dearly loved his family. He lived a full life and is finally at rest in the embracing arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Robert & Goldie Owen; sisters: Rosetta, Bobbie, Rebecca; brothers: Manuel, Danny, Gary; half-brother: Virgil; half-sister: Asilee; son-in-law: George and stepson: Tom. Richard is survived by his wife, Ruby Owen of Carrollton, Ohio; Children and their spouses: Richard, Jr. & Leslye Owen, Jeff & Mischa Owen; Lori & George♥ Wittwer, Tricia Owen & Ben Wyatt; Tom♥ & Maurissa Turnipseed; Darla & Phil Dulaney; Grandchildren and their spouses: Sarah & Ryan McAllister, Brittney Owen, Christine & Brian Tappe, Jeffrey Owen II, Jordan Michelle Sims, Catherine Wittwer, Georgann Wittwer, Jacob Owen, Cameron Gettle & Makenna Farrow, Cecelia Wyatt, Amelia Wyatt, Elizabeth & Scott Compton, Victoria Wyatt, Lillian Wyatt, Sarah Sanayhie, Isabella Turnipseed, Thomas Turnipseed, Laken Underwood, Taylor & Olivia Underwood. Great-Grandchildren: Aubrey, Natalie & Richard, Kayla & Joseph, Annabelle & Elijah, Jeffrey III, Savannah, Maiven, Kerah & Psalms, Hadley & Denton, and Oliver. Sisters and their husbands: Georgia & Bill♥ Devening, Betty & Les Gardner, Rita & Steve Moore; Brother and his wife: Kenny & Dottie Owen. The Owen family would like to extend a special thank you to the many family members who visited & prayed with Richard in his final months, Tricia Owen (daughter) for providing ongoing care to Richard when he returned to OKC, and to the healthcare professionals at the medical entities in Ohio & OKC for their dedication and care during Richard’s time of need. Richard’s Celebration-of-Life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Nicoma Park Baptist Church, 1931 Nichols Dr, Nicoma Park, OK 73066. Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Kolb Cemetery Gravesite, 3706 North Midwest Blvd, Spencer, OK, 73084, where Military Honors will be performed by the Tinker AFB Honor Guard. The celebration will conclude with family remembrance and fellowship at Nicoma Park Baptist Church.
