Joetta Brownlee, age 84, passed away on May 13, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Joetta was born on October 1, 1941, in Stratford, Oklahoma, to Adron Maloy and Genieva (Towler) Dansby. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Walter Dansby, who lovingly helped raise her and whom she considered her father throughout her life.
She grew up in the Wynnewood area and graduated from Wynnewood High School. At the young age of 17, Joetta married the love of her life, Bobby Joe Brownlee Sr., in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, on May 29, 1959. Together they built a life and raised their family through many years of marriage, memories, and life's ups and downs.
Joetta had a sharp wit and a sense of humor that those around her came to know well. She could give a joke just as quickly as she could take one, and her family shared many laughs with her over the years. Her daughter, LeShelle, especially remembers playfully teasing her mother because Joetta was much shorter than the other family members. LeShelle would often place her coffee creamer on the very top shelf of the cabinet just to watch her mom struggle to reach it, something that became one of those small but treasured family memories that still brings laughter today.
Karen remembers her mother as a lovely person who was deeply loved by the residents and staff at her assisted living center. Joetta had a creative spirit and especially enjoyed crafting. Crocheting was one of her favorite pastimes, and she found great joy in creating things with her hands. Karen cherished the time they spent together making bracelets during her visits, moments that became precious memories for both mother and daughter.
In addition to crafting, Joetta enjoyed spending time fishing whenever she was able. These simple pleasures brought her peace, happiness, and a sense of accomplishment throughout her life.
Joetta lived life in her own way and was unapologetically herself. Those who knew her best understood her straightforward nature, her quick comebacks, and the unique personality that made her memorable to everyone around her. Beneath her humor and strong spirit was a woman who was dearly loved by her family and friends and whose presence brought warmth to those fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her daughters, LeShelle Henderson and Karen Brownlee; her son, Bobby Joe Brownlee Jr.; her grandchildren, Kurt Snelson, Jason Snelson, Bobby Fielding, Teddy Brownlee, and Calista Brownlee; her great-grandchildren, Daeton Snelson, Shannon Fitzpatrick, Robert Fitzpatrick, Colton Fielding, Kayleigh Fielding, and Liam Brownlee; her great-great-grandchild, Calypso; her sisters, Roberta Hughes, Olene Rowe, Edna Streater, Linda Herd, Bobbie Holland, and Pam Hisaw; her brothers, Dennis Lee Maloy, Ronald "Fuzz" Dansby, and Harold Dansby; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joetta was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Brownlee Sr.; her son, Kenny Brownlee; her parents, Genieva and Walter Dansby and Adron and Oleven Maloy; and her brother, Larry Maloy.
The family carries with them many memories, stories, laughter, and love shared with Joetta throughout the years. Though she will be greatly missed, the lessons she taught, the crafts she created, the smiles she shared, and the memories she helped make will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
